Pythouse Kitchen Garden has long been a favourite spot of mine for lunch or a special dinner, and so of course I’ve been longing to shoot a wedding there for some time. Finally in 2021 I’m going to be lucky enough to shoot not one but two weddings at Pythouse and the first, the wedding of Sophie and Ed this weekend, certainly did not disappoint, especially as they teamed it with another of my favourite local venues, the beautiful Hatch House.

In fact, Sophie and Ed had really gathered some what of a dream team of wedding suppliers as everyone they’d got on board to make their day beautiful were suppliers I love to work with. I arrived for bridal prep, with the wonderful Frances Moore in the midst of hair and make up duties. She created the most gorgeous, understated but neat up do for Sophie finished with a headband from her sister company Wild Wolf Veils. It complemented her relaxed and elegant bridal style perfectly with her gown from Millie Couture in Salisbury. Finally Sophie had chosen the wonderful Pod & Pip to create her and her ‘maids their perfect bouquets.

Sophie & Ed were married in the sunken garden at Hatch House, which really is incredibly beautiful. The garden is stunning, and there are so many photographic backdrops at Hatch. After their ceremony the guests were led by piper – a nod to Sophie’s Scottish heritage – through the woodland at Hatch House and the bell tents at Pythouse and up to the drinks reception where the bride and groom joined them shortly after. Despite knowing both venues I didn’t realise that Hatch House and Pythouse are actually connected they’re the perfect pairing!

The marquee at Pythouse looked incredible, with rustic decor in true Pythouse style and flowers picked from the garden. And of course the food was incredible!

We managed to dodge the rain, which had been going all morning during the ceremony and the photos but during the drinks reception there was a huge down pour, with guests dodging the rain and huddling under umbrellas to make their way to dinner. It didn’t spoil the fun one bit, and after the speeches Sophie’s parents surprised them with a singing waiter (Chess Taylor Singer) who really got the party started for their 90 guests! The look on Sophie’s face was priceless! And in the end the sun did make an appearance for a few golden hour shots in the sunset. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
