It’s that time of year again. Time to choose some of my favourite wedding photographs of the year to share with you all.
Recently I had a chat with some wedding photography friends of mine about whether these posts (and the hours of work that go into them!) are really worth it. But, as I click through this selection of wedding photographs I am struck by the magic that is photography. Photographs freeze time. For a number of reasons this year has passed in the blink of an eye, but these frozen moments, these photographs, help me to relive each of the beautiful twenty eight wedding days which have made up my year. And that my friend, truly is magic.
In a year that was often stressful, where I found myself just trying to make it to the finish line it is incredibly satisfying to stand here, look back at these photos and say ‘I did that’. Celebrating our achievements is important. If you’re planning a wedding you’ll know that for sure! And this blog post is a much needed celebration of my year.
There have been incredible highs (discovering new venues, shooting a wedding in Italy) and some big lows too. When my appendix decided to blow up in August (the peak of wedding season!) that was a challenge I’d hoped never to face. At least I now know for certain that my emergency system does in work as planned; and three amazing photographers stepped in to cover two weddings for me while I was recovering from surgery. (Massive thanks to them!) I edited their photos so they still received my signature look. It is only the second time in twelve years of shooting weddings that I’ve had to send someone else in my place and I hope I’ll go another twelve now that my appendix is gone!
And of course a huge thank you must go to each of the amazing couples I have worked with in twenty twenty three. Especially the two wonderful couples who welcomed in my stand in photographers at the last minute and were incredibly understanding during an emergency. It is the greatest honour of my life to witness your most special moments, and freeze them for you to look back on forever. I love seeing you enjoy your photography in the months and years that follow the day and I’m always so grateful for your trust and kindness which allows me to continue to do my dream job. Thank you. Raising a glass to all of you, and your first Christmases as married couples this festive season.

Choosing these is like choosing between children!
Choosing this selection each year is always so so tough. I’m umm and ahh over this for quite literally hours. I am always emotionally invested in each day I shoot, there’s often a reason I love a seemingly random image. When I do my first draw there are literally hundreds of photographs! So, whittling it down to about one hundred is very tough. I always try to choose instinctively but then find myself sad that a few have been left out, and then there’s the pressure of choosing ‘the best’ and have I got enough of each part of the day. So I’ve taken that pressure off and just chosen some of my favourites to share with you.

My favourite wedding photos are never ‘hero’ shots.
As always, my favourite photographs are always the ones which feel like split seconds captured. You won’t find photos of the decor here (which I am always a sucker for!) or many couple shots or beauty photos. I LOVE shooting them but as I look back each year it’s always the candid captures, relaxed, intimate stolen seconds that have my heart. And I love that when I look at this collection what I am most struck by is emotion. Capturing the joy, the nerves, the tears…I’m here for it.
