Ever since I first saw the crumbling Asylum chapel on a wedding blog I’d been dying to shoot there. Us photographers tend to have a ‘dream venues to shoot at’ list, and the Asylum in Peckham was pretty high up mine. It’s not hard to see why if you browse the images, it’s such a special unique space with unparalleled atmosphere and beauty, and the walls are crumbling and turquoise. TO DIE FOR. So when Emily told me she and Mikey were getting married there, and asked if I’d be their photographer I did a little bit of a dance around the office. Then she added that she’d be wearing Jenny Packham. I thought I might have died and gone to wedding heaven.
When the day came Emily looked truly stunning in her sequinned dress, with hair and make up by the super talented Elbie Van Eeden. Elbie regularly styles Kat Williams of Rock n’ Roll Bride as well as being the creative genius behind the looks created for Kirsty Mitchell’s Wonderland series so I was super excited to work with her. The make up she created was awesome and held up all day. She gave Emily a sparkling yet smokey bronze look, which looked contemporary and cool, a fabulous alternative to the usual bridal nudes.
The rest of the day followed in suitable style with the Asylum providing the perfect backdrop, dripping in chapel candles and simple jam jars of David Austin roses & camomile daisies (another personal favourite of mine!). The lovely Charley from London Bride co-ordinated the day, organising the necessary quick turnarounds and services seamlessly, allowing the bride & groom to relax and enjoy the drinks reception. The long dinner tables featured little vintage style key place settings and yet more candles!
After dinner and the speeches the party moved via a route master bus to Tamesis Dock– a ‘floating pub’ on the Thames for drinks, dancing and cake. The bride changed into a sweet little metallic dress and wedges for the evening. It was the perfect creative city wedding and I loved every minute. Thank you so much for asking me to capture your day guys, and many congratulations! x
