Can you beat a good London pub wedding? They can be small, chic and understated, or like this one, big, bustling, energetic and elegant all at once. I mean, is there really anything better than a proper London boozer, or having all your favourite people in one pub?
Location, Location, Location
For Sarah and James their pub reception was about location, with The Butcher’s Hook & Cleaver right next door to the historic St. Bartholomew The Great where they were married. The eagle eyed amongst you will spot that St. Bart’s is the location of Charles’ wedding to ‘Duck Face’ in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. But besides that claim to fame it’s also London’s oldest church and an incredibly beautiful backdrop for a wedding.
After the ceremony guests were just steps away from the pub, where everyone spilled out into the street to enjoy the sunshine, drinks and of course the all time pub classic- pies! I whisked Sarah and James off over the road to the old Smithfield’s market for some time alone and a few photographs before they re – joined the celebrations.
After their reception it was just a few metres walk from the pub to The Great Hall of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital where they held their wedding breakfast and dancing. The perfect venue choice for two doctors! So while each part of their wedding was in a different location setting a different tone and atmosphere the proximity of them all meant moving their guests wasn’t a huge logistical nightmare. When the pub reception ended, guests were led to the dinner location by a bag piper while Sarah took the opportunity to change into a more relaxed dress for the evening.
Natural Interactions, Captured
It really was such a fun wedding bustling with energy and atmosphere on a hot London day. I’ve known Sarah since our school days and so it was a real honour to capture her wedding day. I always relish the opportunity of shooting a city wedding too, especially in London where I lived while at university, I’ll always be a little bit in love with it. I’ve done several London weddings over the years and always love shooting with the backdrop of an urban environment, as I so often work in the countryside.
The thing I love most about this set of images is the fun they capture. There are so many natural interactions captured and these in between moments are the ones I love to capture for you most on your wedding day. If you’re looking for a wedding photographer to capture all the fun & small moments of your wedding in a natural relaxed style, I’d love to hear from you.
