Now, it’s a bit of a cliché to assume the French are all super chic and utter gastronomes, but when it came to my French bride Nelly and her beautiful wedding to her English beau Simon the stereotype seemed to be entirely true- lucky me!
I was excited about Nelly & Simon’s wedding from the minute we met. Nelly told me she had actually found me via pinterest when searching for images of Claire Pettibone wedding dresses. Claire Pettibone is one of my all time favourite wedding dress designers and I had a feeling that Nelly’s ‘Queen Anne’s Lace’ Claire Pettibone dress from one of the loveliest local boutiques Exquisite Bridal Couture would most likely just be the start, and set the tone for the rest of the day. I was delighted to find this was entirely true. Nelly has exquisite taste, and she’d brought together the most elegant and understatedly beautiful day. It was relaxed and personal but also very stylish, a balance which can be hard to strike.
The couple were married at Romsey Town Hall with a reception on the families farm just outside the town. Simon had actually spent months cultivating and preparing a field at the end of the couple’s garden even building a bridge onto a little island in the river which runs alongside! A marquee was pitched on the field and filled with stunning flowers by the talented Elizabeth Salter. As place settings the women all received favours of little vases with roses while the men had little boxes of elegant grey sugared almonds. Nelly explained to me that being French the food was extremely important to her, and that were it not up to parr she’d never live it down with her family. After months of searching she chose Vanilla catering, and the food was indeed among some of the best I have ever had at a wedding. There was a menu of scallops followed by venison with a beautiful croque en bouche wedding cake as desert followed by both French and English cheeseboards. After dinner the guests relaxed in the field on hay bales and played garden games as the sun went down. It was perfect. Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of your day Nelly & Simon I absolutely loved it!
