I am so lucky to be able to travel the world doing my job, and went to Italy not once but twice last year to shoot weddings! Suzanne and Jakob’s wedding on Lake Como was one of the most beautiful I have witnessed, and Lake Como is a place that truly gets under your skin. It’s such a romantic setting and breath takingly beautiful. Huge thank you to my friend Sassy of Assassynation for asking me to join her as her assistant for the weekend, we had so much fun driving the winding roads from Milan to the lake in our trusty iconic and highly Italian Fiat 500!
Suzanne & Jakob’s wedding was co-ordinated by the lovely ladies of The Lake Como Wedding Planner, who also planned John Legend’s Lake Como wedding in 2013. The whole event was just to die for. Suzanne and her family had hired a beautiful house over looking the lake where the bridal prep took place. Suzanne was one of the most stylish brides I’ve ever seen, wearing a vintage dress and Gucci shoes chosen by Jakob. The ceremony took place in the gardens of a stunning villa a short car journey away, after which the guests were whisked away on a boat tour of a few of the beauty spots around the Lake before arriving at Lido di Lenno for a typically Italian Aperol Spritz accompanied by a light buffet. The marquee at Lido di Lenno had been decorated beautifully with citrus fruit and figs for the centrepieces. All the guests were given some local olive oil as a favour.
As Suzanne is half Egyptian and Jakob is Danish their wedding reflected the cultures of their heritage with the traditional extensive Danish speeches and sock cutting (you can read more about Danish wedding traditions in this post) and the most fabulous Egyptian music got the party started and it was quite the party. Sassy and I shot for sixteen hours, right until the end and we danced like demons! It was truly an amazing celebration to capture and be a small part of.
A huge thank you to Suzanne, Jakob and of course Sassy for having me and to the ladies at The Lake Como Wedding Planner.
